Colonel Thomas W. Carey
Colonel Carey was born in Gaithersburg, MD on 2 March 1981. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in May 2003.

In April 2004, following graduation from the Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officer Course he reported to 3d Battalion, 6th Marines, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. As a rifle platoon commander in Co L, he deployed with the battalion to Afghanistan in 2004 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. As a weapons platoon commander, he again deployed with the battalion in 2005-2006 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Following a brief assignment as the battalion's assistant operations officer, 1st Lieutenant Carey was reassigned to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools from July 2006 - April 2007 as the training officer.

In April 2007, Captain Carey reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. While there, he served as a warfighting instructor, infantry platoon commander, Basic Officer Course and Warrant Officer Basic Course staff platoon commander, and Infantry Officer Course instructor. Following his tour at The Basic School, he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School, graduating in May 2011.

In June 2011, Captain Carey reported to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, for duty as Commander, Company C. While with 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, he deployed with the 22d MEU in 2012. Upon return from deployment, Captain Carey was reassigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines. During this tour he was promoted to major and in 2014, he deployed with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Battalion Landing Team operations officer.

From June 2015 to July 2017, Major Carey served as the Combat Arms Majors Monitor. Following completion of this tour, he attended both the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Warfighting. Upon graduation from the School of Advanced Warfighting in 2019, Major Carey reported to 2d Marine Logistics Group for duty as a MAGTF planner. In June of 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Carey assumed the additional duties of Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff G-3 until departing in June 2021.

From July 2021 to July 2023, LtCol Carey served as the commander of Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West. The battalion was responsible for advanced infantry training with locations in California and Hawaii and all formal entry and advanced-level Light Armored and Amphibious Reconnaissance training. From July 2023 to June 2024, LtCol Carey attended the Army War College. In June 2024 he reported to I Marine Expeditionary Force for duty as the G-3 Current Operations Officer, until June 2026.  He was promoted to his current rank in November of 2024.

Colonel Carey holds a Bachelor of Science in Crime, Law, and Justice from the Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Military Studies and Master of Operational Studies from the Marine Corps University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College. He is married to Mrs. Geraldine Carey, and they share three wonderful children, Addison, Samantha, and Ryan. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star.
