Biography

Infantry Training Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel Carl A. Quist

Lieutenant Colonel Carl A. Quist graduated from George Mason University in 2003 and was commissioned via the Officer Candidate Course in November 2007.  He graduated from The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course in 2008, and was subsequently assigned to 3d Battalion, 6th Marines (3/6).

With 3/6, he deployed twice to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  From January to August 2010, he deployed as 1st Platoon Commander, Company L.  From April to December 2011, he returned as 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, Weapons Company.

In April 2012, he executed orders to Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. (8th & I), where he served as Director, Distance Learning Division, Marine Corps Institute Company; Platoon Commander, Company B; Company Commander, Company B; and Training Officer, Headquarters & Service Company.  In August 2015, following his tour at 8th & I, he reported to Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS), as a student. 

After EWS, Lieutenant Colonel Quist reported to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines (2/5).  From June 2016 to July 2017, he commanded Company E. Battalion Landing Team 2/5 deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conducting exercises in Okinawa, Thailand, and the Republic of Korea.

In August 2017, he reported to Expeditionary Warfare Training Group (EWTG), Pacific.  After instructing in the Staff Planning Division, he assumed the billet of Director, USMC Training Division, leading the Amphibious Raid, Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival, and EWTG Medical branches.  Following this tour, he attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College. 

From July 2020 to January 2021, Lieutenant Colonel Quist served as Future Operations Officer, 5th Marine Regiment.  He then reported to 2d Battalion, 4th Marines (2/4), where he served as Battalion Executive Officer from January 2021 to July 2023.  Battalion Landing Team 2/4 deployed with the 13th MEU, participating in various exercises in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Timor Leste, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines.

In August 2023, he assumed the billet of Current Operations Officer, I Marine Expeditionary Force.  In June 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Quist reported to School of Infantry-West to serve as Commanding Officer, Infantry Training Battalion.

He is privileged to have served in units that were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
