Advanced Infantry Training Battalion
Sergeant Major Jorge A. Calderon
Sergeant Major Calderon enlisted in the Marine Corps on June of 2001 and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego. Upon completion of recruit training, he reported to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West and earned the primary MOS of 0341 (Infantry Mortarman).
In November of 2001, Private Calderon reported to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, Weapons Company. During his time with the battalion he was promoted through the rank of Corporal. In July of 2002, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and in February of 2004, he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In December of 2004, Corporal Calderon reported to Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Field Company, MCRD - Edson Range, where he served as a Field Instructor, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June of 2006.
In January of 2007, Sergeant Calderon reported to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines and was assigned to Weapons Company. In September of 2007, Sergeant Calderon deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In January of 2009, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the 31st MEU.
In June of 2010, Sergeant Calderon reported to Marine Combat Instructor School (MCIS), School of Infantry-East. Upon completion of MCIS, Sergeant Calderon was assigned to Fox Company, Marine Combat Training Battalion. He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in November of 2010 and served in the billets of Combat Instructor, Platoon Commander and Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In August of 2013, Staff Sergeant Calderon reported to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines and was assigned to India Company, 2nd Platoon, and served as Platoon Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Calderon deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Upon return, Staff Sergeant Calderon was assigned to 1st Platoon and served as Platoon Sergeant, he deployed with the 15th MEU, Maritime Raid Force. Upon return, Staff Sergeant Calderon was transferred to Lima Company and served in the billet of Weapons Platoon Sergeant. In August of 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. During the work-up he held an additional billet and served as the Platoon Commander for 1st Platoon. In October of 2016, he deployed as part of Forward Deployment Battalion-West and in November of 2016, he was transferred to Headquarters and Support Company where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In September of 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Calderon reported to HQ CENTCOM in Tampa, Florida where he served in the billet of J3 Operations SNCOIC for 7 months. Gunnery Sergeant Calderon then was transferred to the J3 Joint Operations Center (JOC) to serve in the billet of JOC Senior Enlisted Leader. During his time in the JOC, Gunnery Sergeant Calderon served in additional billets of MARITIME Watch Officer for 6 months and JOC Executive Officer for 1 year. Gunnery Sergeant Calderon was selected and frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in May of 2020.
In May of 2020, First Sergeant Calderon reported to School of Infantry-West, Infantry Training Battalion. He was assigned to Alpha Company and held the billet of Company First Sergeant.
In January of 2022, First Sergeant Calderon reported to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, I MLG where he served in the billet of Headquarters and Support Company (H&S Co) First Sergeant. In January of 2023, he was transferred to Charlie Company where he deployed to Peleliu, Palau in support of Marine Corps Engineer Detachment- Palau (MCED-P) 23.1. Upon return from deployment, he once again assumed the responsibilities of H&S Co First Sergeant. In July of 2024, he was transferred to Alpha Company and once again deployed to Peleliu, Palau in support of MCED-P 24.2. In January of 2025, First Sergeant Calderon was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major.
In February of 2025, Sergeant Major Calderon reported to School of Infantry-West, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, where he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Calderon's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of third award, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
